New uniform, same results for Williams | The high jumper from Eugene wins for the first time as a member of the OTC Elite team

DES MOINES, Iowa — Maybe it was the uniform.

Eugene’s Jesse Williams, who was making his debut in an Oregon Track Club Elite singlet, claimed the U.S. high jump title with a clearance of 7 feet, 5 inches at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium on Sunday.

Williams finished in a tie at that height with reigning U.S. outdoor champion Tora Harris, but he was awarded the victory based on fewer misses.
